CLTA Exexutive Vice President, Craig Page, has written Legislative leaders questioning the Governor’s budget proposal to reclassify certain property crimes to misdemeanors and its impact on vulnerable Californians whose homes may be lost to forgeries, fraud and equity skimming scams. Turning these crimes into misdemeanors with a one year statute of limitations may impact law enforcements ability and willingness to expend resources to investigate and prosecute these crimes. The Los Angeles County District Attorney has asked that the proposal be withdrawn and the CLTA has suggested that such a major change should not be adopted without a careful review and public participation.
