New Requirement For All Insurance Companies To Provide Current Copies of Policies After a Covered Loss
SB 518 (Kehoe) was recently signed into law adding Section 395 to the Insurance Code. This new law requires, starting January 1, 2006, all insurers to provide a free copy of the insured's current insurance policy or certificate within 30 calendar days of receipt of a request from the insured. It also provides that an insured who does not experience a covered loss shall, upon request, be entitled to one free copy of his or her current insurance policy or certificate annually.
