The California Law Revision Commission (CLRC) is continuing to work on their study of the mechanics’ lien law. Some of the decisions impacting the title industry relate to the definition of completion, making the content of the preliminary notice for private and public work consistent and considering whether to incorporate the design professionals lien into the mechanics’ lien law.
On the issue of completion, the staff may examine why the public works completion is cessation of labor for 30 days, while for private works it is 60 days. The issue of recording a notice of completion is also the subject of discussion.
