The California Building Standards Commission (CBSC) had adopted one of the first “green” building codes in the nation which generally becomes effective concurrently with the 2010 California Building Code. It is expected that after 2010 the code will be updated annually to incorporate new technology and construction methods. The new code will have a major impact on new low-rise residential construction.
The new California Green Building Standards Code includes:
A city or county may make changes to the code which are reasonably necessary because of local climatic, geological, or topographical conditions. Findings of the local conditions and the adopted local building standards must be filed with the California Building Standards Commission.
