Message from CLTA President - Jeff Kerns
Tuesday, July 18, 2017
I am very honored and proud to accept the appointment of President of the CLTA. I wish to thank Steve Tjaden for his outstanding leadership of our organization this past year.
Since I became a member of the CLTA Board of Governors in 2005, I have had the pleasure of working with some of the great title professionals of our time. People such as Roy Frank of Stewart Title, Marsha Emmett of Placer Title, Don Partington of Fidelity National Title, Tom Chandler of Inter-County Title, and the list goes on and on. When you look at the current board roster, you can see the CLTA will be in good hands to take on the challenges that will arise in the years to come.
Every successful organization needs a great staff, and CLTA has an all-star lineup. Craig Page, Cynthia Groom, Heather Starkey, and Anthony Helton are absolutely fantastic leaders who have made the CLTA what it is today. I will lean heavily on their expertise over the course of the next year; they are true professionals and we are very fortunate to have them.
I want to thank all of our committee members for their service and the member companies for which they work. It is the committee members donating their time, effort, and the support of the companies they work for, that makes the CLTA the respected and powerful trade organization it is.
This year has the potential to be different for our industry than in recent years. With a new administration in Washington, come new ideas and priorities. How will the recent spotlight on the CFPB impact us and how we do business? What will the California legislature throw at us this year? We had a great discussion at the convention regarding legalized medical marijuana and what to expect when asked to insure parcels with marijuana groves. These are just a few of the issues we can expect to deal with in the near future. You can bet your CLTA staff and board will rise to the occasion and combat challenges that come our way.
Again, it is a great honor and privilege to serve as President of the CLTA. For 110 years CLTA has led the way to protect our client’s dream of home ownership. I am proud to be a part of it and I do my very best to live up to the standards of those who have lead before me.
