California Title Industry Generates $287 Million in Premiums During First Half of Year

The California title insurance industry generated over $827 million in title insurance premiums during the first half of 2017. Total premiums for the first half of the year were $7.014 billion. California placed second in the nation behind Texas, while Florida and New York held the third and fourth positions. In the second quarter of 2017 California title premiums increased 1% over the second quarter of 2016. Total premiums in the second quarter of 2017 were $3.7 billion according to the American Land Title Association 2017 Second-Quarter Market Analysis. The 2017 second quarter total is up slightly from the $3.5 billion during the second quarter of 2016. The publicly traded underwriters captured 85.4 percent of the market share during the latest quarter, while independent underwriters garnered 14.6 percent of the market.
