Freddie Mac Sees Potential for Higher Rates

Freddie Mac reported that the 30-year mortgage rate remained unchanged last week at 3.78 percent, although, following a sharp decline the week prior, the 10-year Treasury yield rose 11 basis points. Sean Becketti, the Chief Economist for Freddie Mac, stated that if Treasury yields continue to rise, mortgage rates could see an increase in next rate survey. The average fixed rate mortgage rate of 3.78% is only up slightly from a year ago when the rate averaged 3.5%.
