First American Wins Class Action Trial in Los Angeles

After deliberating less than 90 minutes, a Los Angeles jury rendered a complete defense verdict for First American Title Insurance Co. in a major class action lawsuit.  ​The verdict came after a month-long trial in which First American was represented by Los Angeles commercial litigators with Dentons, a global law firm.

​The plaintiffs alleged fraud and negligent representation in connection with the classification of the CLTA Homeowners Policy of Title Insurance. The case took almost 20 years to go to trial after several amended complaints were filed that changed the direction of the claims, as well as an interim appellate review by the California Court of Appeal.

A motion for a new trial was denied on June 23.
