Senator Allen and Former Senator Bradford Announce Run for Insurance Commissioner California State Sen. Ben Allen (D - Santa Monica) recently announced his run for California Insurance Commissioner, an office on which voters will have the opportunity to cast their vote in the 2026 election.
The current Insurance Commissioner, Ricardo Lara, who was first elected to his current office in 2018, and again in 2022, will be termed out. In comments made regarding his run, Senator Allen pledged to prioritize consumers while ensuring a climate-resilient insurance market. He has lined up several political endorsements and has nearly $1 million in campaign funds on hand. Allen, who has served in the Senate since 2014 and is considered an environmental policy leader in the Legislature, has secured endorsements from a number of high profile California legislators, including U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, Senate President Pro Tem Mike McGuire, Pro-Tem Designee Monique Limon, and Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas. Former state senator Steven Bradford (D – Inglewood) has also announced his intention to run for the Insurance Commissioner seat. Bradford previously served In the State Senate for eight years and served on the Insurance Committee during his time in the Legislature. Bradford has more than half a million dollars in cash on hand, raised largely in connection with the announcement of a run for Lt.
