Two Biggest Brokerage Groups to Combine

Real estate brokerage Compass has agreed to buy Anywhere Real Estate (formerly known as Realogy)  for $1.6 billion in an all-stock transaction.

Anywhere brands include Century 21, Coldwell Banker, Corcoran and Sotheby’s International. According to Real Trends, Compass and the Anywhere brands were the first and second biggest brokerages by volume in 2024. Anywhere also has an ownership interest in California underwritten title companies.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Anywhere’s business includes title insurance, escrow, and relocation services. The Wall Street Journal also reports that the combination could expand the strategy of offering exclusive listings. Compass has sued rival firm Zillow over policies that Compass alleges restrict private listings.
