Reauthorizing National Flood Insurance Program Takes Priority over Dodd-Frank

House Financial Services Committee Chair Jeb Hensarling told CNBC that the Committee plans to take up Dodd-Frank reform this year, but that it will fall behind tax reform and the repeal and replacement of Obamacare. Instead, the Financial Services Committee is looking to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program before it expires in September. After flood insurance, the Committee will wade into Dodd-Frank and other financial reforms. Chairman Hensarling’s legislation, the Financial CHOCE Act, would overhaul the structure of the CFPB. When regulatory reform is taken up, the title industry will push for improving CFPB guidance and fixing TRID disclosures. The CFPB decided not to fix the TRID disclosures in connection with its recent efforts at regulatory guidance.
