The California Land Title Association is sponsoring legislation that it hopes will lead to electronic notarization in California. The goal of the CLTA is for California law to keep pace with technological developments while maintaining effective fraud deterrents. Assembly Bill 2368 (Calderon) is a legislative place-holder while the CLTA meets with stakeholders to learn their views on electronic notarization in general as well as specific proposals. The stakeholders to whom the CLTA has reached out include the National Notary Association, California Secretary of State, California Escrow Association, California Mortgage Bankers Association and the California Bankers Association. Substantive amendments to AB 2368 will be added to the bill based upon on going negotiations.
