Zillow Research recently reported how much property space a single dollar would buy in 35 large cities as measured in square inches. A prospective buyer would get the least bang for their buck in San Francisco, where the mighty greenback would fetch only a meager 0.14 inches of space. A dollar would stretch farthest in Fresno, where it would buy just under a full square inch, at 0.97 square inches. In between these cities are San Jose at .20 inches, Los Angles at .31 inches, San Diego at .34 inches, and Sacramento at .65 inches.

California is not the only market where property rates are on the rise; though at the national level a single dollar can buy 1.07 square inches, even this price is down from 2.09 square inches 20 years ago.
