CLTA Joins Business Coalition Proposing Fixes to California Consumer Privacy Act

The California Land Title Association is taking part in a large and diverse coalition of businesses, ranging from wineries and movie studios to retail stores and hospitals, that have come together to propose amendments to improve the workability of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). The CLTA is concerned that the existing CCPA may adversely affect title companies’ ability to lawfully provide information to government agencies, including the Department of Child Support Services, the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, and district attorneys. This information is used to combat various forms of fraud and ensure collection of unpaid taxes and child support.

The coalition is being led by the California Chamber of Commerce and will advocate for crucial legislative fixes in the upcoming legislative session. In addition to seeking legislative changes, the coalition intends to be involved in the regulatory process of the California Attorney General to ensure that business efforts to implement and comply with the CCPA can be as efficient and compliant as possible.
