Although the new two-year legislative session started in December, the real action won’t take place until January when the session begins in earnest. Already, legislation to revive redevelopment agencies has been introduced by Assemblymember David Chiu, and Senators Beall and McGuire have announced that they will be introducing redevelopment bills and targeting housing. Some legislators will be trying to pass legislation that failed to reach Governor Brown in the last legislative session. One example of this "Legislative 2.0" plan will be the reintroduction of legislation by Senator Wiener to allow higher density housing around public transit. An analysis of some of the legislative issues already announced is available here.
