According to Housing Wire, the San Jose City Council implemented a temporary moratorium on evictions for non-payment of rent by tenants impacted by the federal government shutdown, providing a potential blueprint for future action by city or county governments in the face of state or federal crisis.

The eviction ban covers tenants who are federal employees or contractors who are not being paid and tenants holding federal housing vouchers or beneficiaries of federal rent subsidies that are not being paid.

The moratorium was scheduled to last for the earlier of 90 days, or 30 days after the shutdown ends.
