California Listed Home Prices up Dramatically in Last Decade

California listed home prices rose 85.4% between January 2012 and January 2019 according to the Wall Street Journal. The median home price in California was $519,000 compared to $275,000 nationwide. Only New York has a lower percentage of home ownership, and California building permits lag well behind the housing needs of California. The CLTA supports more residential construction, although the high cost of land and construction in California along with some of the strictest building standards in the nation are often impediments to increasing the housing supply.
