A Message from CLTA President, Randy Bradley
Tuesday, July 21, 2020
A funny thing happened during the COVID-19 pandemic - the CLTA cancelled its annual convention and yet was still able to elect me as the 2020/21
President. This will certainly go down as one of the absolute highlights of my career in this industry and I am humbled and grateful for your trust.
Throughout my time serving on various committees within CLTA, I have had the pleasure of associating with some of the industry’s best and brightest, all of whom were generous with their knowledge and wisdom and have become mentors to me. As many
of you know, this is my third career, having spent 15 years with Bank of America and five years as the CFO for a government contractor. I had a lot of catching up to do and people like Pat Laffin, Don Partington, Dan Buchanan, Rick Dosa, Steve Tjaden,
Don Kennedy and David Windle, to name just a few, were instrumental in my learning process.
Special thanks go to Dia Demmon for guiding us through the turbulent past year with the advent of the CCPA and COVID-19. It is unfortunate that we did not have the opportunity to send her off properly at our convention and I sincerely hope that we
can make that up to her next year.
It is no secret that the backbone of our association is the tremendous staff who have served us extraordinarily well during my entire tenure with CLTA and long before I arrived on the scene. Having served our association for 28 years, Heather Starkey
possesses an extraordinary amount of institutional knowledge which she applies to our convention planning, educational programs, and claims manual. Cynthia Groom keeps both our meetings and our finances in perfect order. I learned early on to expect a
quick and thorough answer whenever questioning Cynthia regarding association financial matters. AJ has grown tremendously since I first met him and has become a legislative force in our state capitol in his own right. And then there is Craig. In 26 years
of service to our industry he has forgotten more than most of us will ever know. Don’t be surprised if you see his lips moving whenever I am asked to speak on behalf of our association.
Unlike Dia’s term, I expect to have smooth sailing during my term. I certainly don’t expect us to be hampered by fraudulent LLC filings, FASB lease accounting standards, Remote Online Notarization, more COVID-19 issues, CCPA, CPREA, or the Department
of Financial Protection and Innovation. Even the name of that last one scares me!
I am truly honored to follow in the footsteps of Mother Lode Holding Company CEO Marsha Emmett. Much like when she asked myself and my two partners, Lisa Steele and Darrick Blatnick, to take over the reins of Mother Lode Holding Company and Placer
Title Company, I feel like I have been given the keys to the Ferrari and told not to scratch it. And that is my commitment to you.
I promise not to scratch it…
