As reported by CLTA in February 2016, the "No Place Like Home" initiative was introduced earlier this year in an effort to assist local communities in preventing and addressing homelessness. The proposal, which provides $2 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of permanent supportive housing for homeless individuals with mental illness, initially met opposition in the Legislature before receiving broad support from both parties.

After passing out of both houses on votes of 36-1 and 70-7 on June 27th and June 30th, respectively, the initiative was signed into law as AB 1618 (Chapter 43, Statutes of 2016) by Governor Brown on July 1st.
